Tom McGahy, whose young daughter Romy is still receiving cancer treatment in the UK, is asking islanders to choose his new year haircut as he raises money for the charity that is helping his family.
Tom McGahy is starting 2023 by giving back to a Guernsey charity that continues to support the family through a very difficult time.
For the past 14 months, Tom and his family have been staying at the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation's flat in Southampton while his daughter Romy receives lifesaving treatment at the nearby hospital.
He said having the flat has been comforting:
"We feel so lucky to have been able to stay at the flat during an incredibly unlucky period of our lives.
Caring for Romy while she battles childhood cancer has been intense.
The flat has enabled us to stay together as we can walk to the hospital and, when Romy has been out of hospital, she has been able to stay with us at the flat."
Tom and his wife Helen decided a 'Wacky' haircut vote would be a unique fundraiser.
Islanders can choose from three styles on the charity's website when they donate.
"Rather than going for the straightforward shave, we thought why not give people three options?
I mean, who wouldn't want to see a moustache on a man's head?"
We want to raise as much money as possible for this amazing resource!"
Voting closes on 31 December and the winning haircut will be announced in January.
