Sark gets first stamp sets

Guernsey Post’s philatelic bureau is releasing two postage stamp sets highlighting Sark.

Sark, being part of the Bailiwick, has historically used Guernsey stamps.

Later this summer, however, two official Sark stamp sets will be issued.

The first set, which will be available from 27 August, focuses on Sark's Occupation and Liberation.

Among its designs are two featuring Dame of Sark, Sibyl Hathaway.

One where she famously surprised the occupiers by conversing fluently in German, and another in the same location five years later with members of British Force 135.

Other stamps showcase black and white photographs of German soldiers and prisoners of war.

The collection also includes images from 10 May 2025, when Sark celebrated 80 years of freedom, and HRH Princess Anne visited.

She is seen arriving with her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, on Little Sark via helicopter, sitting in a horse-drawn carriage, and speaking to residents who lived through the Occupation.

The second stamp series, set for release on 3 September, will showcase Sark’s unique wildflowers

It will feature the Rock Sea-Lavender, found exclusively on Sark, along with the rare Sand Crocus and vibrant Bluebells.

Guernsey Post's Bridget Yabsley says they expect strong interest in both sets from collectors around the world.

“We are incredibly proud to support Sark in issuing its first stamps, which is a historic moment for the island.

“The commemorative stamps reflect the character and resilience of Sark’s community, and we are honoured to mark this important time in its history.

“Sark boasts spectacular displays of wild flowers and is home to rare species of plants and flowers found in few other places in the world, let alone the British Isles."
