A planning application has been submitted investigate storm damage to Gorey Pier and how best to stabilise it.
The landing stage of the pier has been closed to the public since October 2023, after deterioration was found.
Further work will investigate damage to the pier itself from Storm Ciaran, and what repairs are needed.
A planning application has been submitted, as the pier is Grade 1 listed.
Ande Vibert, Ports of Jersey's Public Service Obligations Manager, told Channel 103:
"The work that we need to undertake is to validate the data that we have collated from previous surveys. These were done above the ground and were surface, we didn't open anything up.
"We now need to go further to work out exactly what processes we would need to undertake to carry out the physical main works.
Engineers will need to drill along the pier to determine how best to fix it, which will mean access will be restricted at times.
Ande says it is important the historical sites are taken care of properly:
"All of our historical estate was listed in 2015 - most of it was Grade 1, which is the highest level you can get.
"We have worked very closely, and will continue to work very closely with the government's planning and heritage departments. They have been extremely helpful - they understand how important it is that these structures absolutely remain in place.
"We have also been working very closely with the user groups and tenants all around Gorey over the last 12 months we have held a number of drop-in sessions. They are aware of the works that are necessary."
"We are planning the primary work to be carried out outside of the summer season so it has minimal impact on the summer visitors and boat -owners.
"We need to undertake these investigative works now to make sure we're ready to go at the end of the year."
The costs involved in the repairs, stabilisations, and investigations will come from Ports of Jersey, and no public funds are being used.
