It's thought a spark from a firework caused a blaze on the hillside near Fort Regent last night as the Christmas lights were being turned in town.
Fire Crews were called to near where a display for the Christmas lights switch-on had been set.
The flames had been put out by staff setting the pyrotechnics. They have been praised for their quick actions.
Firefighters stayed on to dampen down.
Thousands of people were in town to see Santa flick the switch:
Santa's sleigh had led a parade, including a train full of children, from Millennium Town Park, to West's Centre, the Royal Square and the Weighbridge.
