James Arnold has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for crashing into four people in St Helier whilst twice over the drink drive limit.
The 25-year-old ploughed his white Toyota Yaris into a wall at the corner of Grenville Street and Colomberie on the evening of 19 February, hitting four pedestrians on the pavement, including a 71-year-old woman.
Three of the four victims received hospital treatment for serious injuries and are deeply traumatised by the collision.
Investigating Officer Police Constable James Alcock says this was a nasty collision that was totally avoidable:
"Arnold made that decision to drink alcohol and then get behind the wheel. Because of that he now has lost his licence and his liberty and the people he injured are still suffering the after-effects."
Police breathalysed Arnold at the scene. He was twice over the legal limit.
He was arrested - despite his resistance - and kept in custody overnight. He was interviewed the following morning.
Arnold pleaded guilty to causing injury by careless driving whilst unfit though drink or drugs and to violently resisting arrest.
He has had his driving licence revoked and can apply to take the test again in three years.
