A Manche Iles crew member has died following an 'incident' at Victoria Pier on Sunday morning (23 July).
At around 3:30 am on Sunday, 23 July 2023, there were reports of a man in the water at the harbour.
However, when the police and ambulance services arrived, other Manche Iles Express crew members had already pulled him out of the water.
Paramedics took the man to hospital, but he died shortly after.
A man who helped to pull him out of the water was also treated in hospital but was quickly discharged.
In a short statement, the ferry company briefly outlined what had happened:
"Following an incident which took place at the Victoria pier early on Sunday morning, a member of the Manche Iles Express crew has sadly passed away.
"Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the family at this difficult time."
The details remain unclear, but Manche Iles adds that it is working with investigators to establish the 'circumstances and cause' of the incident.
A file will be prepared for the Deputy Viscount by the States of Jersey Police.
