Seven so-called 'raised tables' are being put on roads at Havre des Pas to slow traffic.
The raised tables are wider than speed bumps and will be installed between Green St and St Clement's Road.
The government says they will help enforce the area's 20 mile per hour speed limit, and make it safer for people to cross the road.
The Infrastructure Minister has suggested a local artist could decorate them 'to reflect the character, history, and culture of the area'.
They will be put in place next year:
• near the Havre des Pas Gardens junction
• west of Marett Road junction
• East of Marett Road junction
• outside the Ommaroo Hotel
• west of the junction with St Clement's Road.
Two more raised tables will be installed at the existing traffic light controlled pelican crossings:
• by the Havre des Pas junction with Green Street
• by the Havre des Pas junction with Roseville Street.
"A courtesy crossing is a raised crossing in the road which provides pedestrians with a safer place to cross, although traffic is not obliged to stop.
The plans follow a consultation last year that looked at the ways Havre des Pas could be improved." - Government of Jersey.
Islanders are being invited to give feedback on the project by emailing transport@gov.je.
