The JSPCA says it is 'devastated' after a puffin brought into its care on Friday has died.
It was found last week covered in oil at St Ouen's Bay.
Staff at the Animals' Shelter say it's always hard when an animal they're caring for passes away, but when it's such an elusive creature as a puffin - it hits especially hard:
"Caring for wildlife has its challenges. We never know the full back story or for how long they have been debilitated. For such an elusive animal like a puffin to come into our care, it must have been compromised for some time with the oil. This, in turn, would have had such a negative effect on its health and finding food." -JSPCA
It was the first puffin to have been brought to the Animals' Shelter since 2014.
The charity says it still has a number of other oiled seabirds in its care and appealed for donations of fresh or frozen sand eels to feed them.
