Phased refurbishment works begin today (29 June) at Green Street car park, starting with the top deck (Level 5).
Repairs will include new waterproof coatings and maintenance of the steelwork and concrete columns.
All the works are confined to the rear half of each level (the half closest to the police station).
The rest of the car park will remain open as usual, but this means capacity will be reduced.- with fewer spaces available to shoppers and commuters.
Phase 1 on Level 5 is expected to be completed by 10 July, and Phase 2 will follow.
The whole three phases of the project are expected to take a couple of months.
We're told some of the work will produce a strong smell, but that it is not harmful.
Most of the work is being done 8am - 6pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays. Some earlier starts (7am) and later finishes (11pm) are possible.
Access to the car park will be maintained, but some pedestrian access may be closed at times.
